Kyiv

Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine and one of the oldest cities in Europe, founded at least 1500 years ago. A modern European city is able to surprise anyone - from those who appreciate natural beauty, architecture, and attractions to those who prefer a more intense and active recreation.

Kyiv is built on the picturesque slopes of the Dnieper River, which gives the opportunity to admire the unique panorama of the metropolis.

Next to a large number of modern skyscrapers, shopping, entertainment, and business centers you will find interesting historical buildings, monuments of art and architecture, quiet narrow streets with their history and unique charm. There are many green squares, parks, fountains, museums, universities, temples, theaters, cafes, restaurants and clubs for every taste.

Like every capital, Kyiv lives an eventful life - it develops, reconstructs, becomes better, but one thing remains unchanged - the desire to explore this city and to open it again each time.

Kyiv Pechersk Lavra

Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra was founded in the XI century. Located on the banks of the Dnipro, it is one of the most recognizable symbols of the capital of Ukraine. Thousands of believers and pilgrims come here; it is also a favorite place for walks, where not only guests of Kyiv but also its residents like to come. There is a famous bell tower in the monastery - one of Kyiv’s landmarks which opens a magnificent panorama of the city. The complex covers an area of 28 ha and includes underground caves with monks' mummies, museums, including Microminiature Museum and the "Golden Treasury", which houses a collection of Scythian gold, as well as themed souvenir shops.

Saint Sophia Cathedral

St. Sophia Cathedral, founded in 1037, is an excellent example of art and architecture from the Kyivan Rus times, which has survived to this day. Here, you can see the tombs of princes (knyaz), in the place where their coronations took place at that time. Many other official and religious ceremonies took place here as well. During the reign of Knyaz Yaroslav the Wise, the first library in Rus was organized in the cathedral, as well as the first school for boys and girls. Interestingly, the interior of the cathedral has not changed much since its foundation.

Murals adorning the walls of the St. Sophia Cathedral are made in a unique technique. They tell the audience the story of biblical scenes, tell about the apostles’ lives, depict portraits of warriors and abbots of the church.

Independence Square

The square, also called Maidan, is quite small in size, but it is one of the busiest places of the city. It unites the three main streets of Kyiv - Khreshchatyk, Instytutska and Heroiv Nebesnoi Sotni.

All significant events are held at the Independence Square. Here the stage is regularly mounted for cultural and entertainment events, friends meet for walks, and also the Maidan witnessed the revolutionary events in Ukraine.
