The Boeing 747-400 is currently the world's largest and most powerful commercial airliner. It has been in service with Lufthansa since 1989. A typical feature of the aircraft is its humped back over the cockpit and First Class area in the cabin. Its powerplants are 50 per cent quieter than those of the first jumbo jet introduced in 1970. Lufthansa was the first European airline to equip its entire Boeing 747-400 fleet with a satellite-based navigation system, allowing cockpit crews to fly aircraft more flexibly and independently of the ground.
